The Encouragement Site 28/01/2012
Remember how Dutch Corrie ten Boom used to encourage people? Well, another Dutch lady, decades later, now has a site to encourage people. Dutch author Gerry Velema posts her bi-weekly messages at www.encouragingsite.com. Check it out! Add Comment 2011: An amazing year! 28/12/2011
We've been sooo blessed in the past year. In February we first visited LightFM and since then Gerard has taken on the responsibility of Web coordinator. Overall the web team had 15 volunteers over the last year. For 2012 there's already some people that have shown their interest to volunteer on the web team. Now that we have two websites - since 1 December there's the LightDigital website - the work is increasing. For 2012 we hope to be able to serve at LightFM. God is good and wants us to trust in Him. All the best for 2012! Hearing from God in 2012 01/11/2011
As we draw ever closer to 2012, it's that time again to make plans. Can you use a little encouragement in your Christian walk in the new year? Then I recommend this great book by Joyce Meyer. It's a daily reminder that God is there for you and that He wants to transform you into his image on a daily basis. Personally we've been blessed throughout this year with Joyce's great reminders of who God is and who he wants us to be! Not satisfied? There's an app for that! 04/02/2011
You know. For travel by train there is an app. The news? Also plenty of apps for news, such as the New York Times one. But what if you're not happy? Our new missionary organization here in Australia, Campus Crusade for Christ (CCCA), today released an app for satisfaction. The "Satisfied?" App for the iPhone. It puts you through the Bible how we as followers of Jesus believe God's Spirit wants to take the lead in your life. It's God's Spirit Who allows us to experience satisfaction and contentment. Even in the midst of life's adversities we can trust God's Spirit and his guidance. We are very grateful that we will soon join the CCCA missionaries here. Please pray with us that soon we will have enough support to be able to join them. Currently we are half way there. This is your new blog post. ![]() Rebeca's delicious result One of the nice things of being a missionary is that we get to know different cultures as well as their food! Rebeca had a desire for years to prepare ham bread but she did not know how. Around Christmas we found the following Venezuelan recipe with English subtitles. The delicious result you can see on the left! Why not try it for yourself... ANZAC Day 2010 22/04/2010
With ANZAC Day 2010 well under way, we would like to tell you that we went to see Beneath Hill 60 the other day. Having grown up only about 100 km from Ieper in Belgium, where Hill 60 was located, this movie once again impacted me regarding the cruelty of war. Growing up in the 70s in The Netherlands, we were often told about WWII; you see, Holland was officially neutral in WWI. I am thankful for the sacrifices of the Aussies, who helped free Europe in the early 20st century! If you want to have an idea why it is we celebrate ANZAC Day this weekend and you have a chance, watching this film is a real recommendation. We think it really shows what young Aussies had to go through, far away from home and loved ones. That also reminds me of all those serving in Afghanistan; may God bless those soldiers and their families. Let's not take our freedom for granted! Rebecca St. James in Sarah's Choice 12/04/2010
Today I was reminded of Aussie Singer Rebecca St. James. It was a long time since I last heard about her. Then I found out she had the leading role in a movie that was released in November last year. I've only seen the trailer, but I think I could see this movie. It seems to be full of hope despite a difficult choice. BTW: If you want to want more recent info on Rebecca St James, best thing is probably to follow her on Twitter @RebeccaStJames. All RSJ websites seem to be a bit outdated... Sunset Skies Down Under 07/04/2010
![]() Living in Melbourne, you can expect any type of climate, any time of the year. One of the things I love about Melbourne is the beautiful skies we get to see. Since we've gone back to winter time over the Easter weekend, we will soon start to experience colder days below 20 degrees Celsius or 70 degrees Fahrenheit. We hope you enjoy this picture, although it's better to see it live, believe me. I love Eugene Peterson's rendering of Psalm 19 in The Message: 1-2 God's glory is on tour in the skies, God-craft on exhibit across the horizon. Madame Day holds classes every morning, Professor Night lectures each evening. 3-4 Their words aren't heard, their voices aren't recorded, But their silence fills the earth: unspoken truth is spoken everywhere. Easter 01/04/2010
![]() This is our third Easter in Australia. The Aussies are real chocoholics. These creme eggs are just one of the varieties you'll find here. For us Easter is also the celebration of new life, and a new connection with God. As followers of Jesus we believe he gave us abundant life by giving his life away and God showed his power by raising him from the death. In that sense Spring as it just began in Europe and the USA is a symbol for us of that new life. Here in Australia, autumn has begun though and we will soon see the colours that come with it. Almost three years! 23/03/2010
![]() It was in the middle of 2007 that we arrived in Australia. We had been living in Central America and the Caribbean prior to that. We feel really blessed to live here and being able to connect with people here and abroad. The internet is a good way to communicate with the world. We hope to do just that, here on this blog! Feel free to keep in touch! In the picture: With our friends Eric & Jean Skattebo at HCJB just after our arrival in Australia, back in 2007. | About usWe're Gerard & Rebeca.
